The Postons

I usually have a pretty good idea of the type of shots I want to get before each session, but Saturday morning rolled around and I was drawing a blank.  I was eating breakfast with Adam before the Poston's session, and I blurted out,  "Adam, what am I going to do?  I usually just chase kids around with my camera while they are playing...I can't tell Brendan Poston to run around and play while I take his picture!"  Really, can you imagine how ridiculous it would be for me to tell a teenage boy to run around and play?  

Thankfully, the Postons were really laid back and natural.  They know how to work it for the camera!

Scott and Kim don't have any wedding photos, so we made up for that last Saturday.

Kim homeschools both of the boys.  I love how she encourages their curiosity.

The Porters

Adam and I spent Sunday afternoon with the Porters, and I could not have wanted it any other way.   I didn't want to leave.  They have such a unique bond with each other, and yet I never felt out of the loop.  When you are there, you are family.  And I loved that.  Alisa and Amy have been our dear friends for a while, but this was the first time that we'd gotten to hang out with the rest of the family.  I took family photos, Adam played at their church....it was a good afternoon.  And to top it all off, Alisa and Jeff got engaged on Friday (!!!) and so we got to do a few engagement photos as well!  

Pompeii

Don't let the creepy-eyed ad scare you away.  It's worth forgoing two crappy holiday movies to pay the ticket fee to the Pompeii exhibition at the Birmingham Museum of Art.  After some not-so-subtle hinting on my part, Adam decided to pack up the kids ("kids" being me) last Saturday morning and head downtown.  The whole exhibit is genius.  They build you up with background info and accounts from neighboring cities, and then throw you into the life of Pompeii in 79 A.D.   The city was excavated in sections (obviously), but the Museum was clever enough to follow suit and show the Mt. Vesuvius victims in the vulnerable state in which they were found.  You see the possessions they felt were most valuable and can deduct their way of life and relationships from their final moments.  Plus, the exhibit signs use the term "pyroclastic surge" alot.  And I think that is fun to say.

Changes

I feel like I owe you all an apology.  I have guarded myself on this blog, hoping to make it seem more "professional" or something silly like that.  I'm at a point in my life where I am trying to figure out who I really am, what my gifts are, what my purpose is....school is over, so now what?  And in my confusion I think that I have tried to be someone that I am not.  I started another blog to have a place to think and vent, but that turned into a people-pleaser venue as well.  So I gave it the boot.  I'm going to try my best to turn this into a place where I can be honest and real.  I don't know where I got the idea that professionals were not real people with real feelings and joys and struggles.  I want to get to know you, and for you to get to know me in return.  I want to bounce ideas off of my blog readers.  I want you to tell me what you are thinking, to vent, to critique, to be real.  I want to do some silly blog games (anyone up for that? I've got about a million ideas).  So no more trying to please each other.  Let's just be friends.

Neighbors

We are blessed to have some really friendly, kind neighbors.  I'm learning that truly nice neighbors are few and far between these days, so Adam and I breathed a sigh of relief when we moved in and met Diane, Rufus, and Mitchell.  I love coming home and seeing them out in the yard and chatting with them after work.  It was great to meet Diane's whole family on Saturday.  Thanks for letting me photograph you all!

The Sissons

Tracy and I have been emailing back and forth for months trying to set up a time to get together. I've been busy, she's been busy, and before we knew it, it was the weekend before Thanksgiving. I had so much fun in our long-awaited session. What a sweet, beautiful, loving family.
